Sam represents clients in patent disputes before federal district courts and the USPTO, with a particular focus on post-grant proceedings such as inter partes reviews (IPRs) and ex parte reexaminations (EPRs). Sam has argued four times before the PTAB and handles all aspects of post-grant practice, from developing prior art invalidity theories and drafting petitions through oral argument before the Board. He understands the interplay between district court litigation and PTAB proceedings and works closely with district court teams to ensure alignment across forums. Sam has handled dozens of post-grant proceedings involving a broad range of technologies, including cybersecurity, wireless communications, process mining, networking, EDA software, and continuous glucose monitors.
Sam also has significant experience obtaining patents in technologies including combustion engines, footwear, aircraft, implantable medical devices, and winches.
