Overview

Johanna has experience counseling clients in a number of areas of intellectual property including patent prosecution, trademark law, licensing, and clearance and patentability assessments.

As a member of the firm’s chemical patent group, Johanna’s practice focuses on preparing and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications in a range of technical areas. Johanna specializes in the fields of organic chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology, and has extensive experience with small molecules, organic synthesis, dosage formulations, polymer chemistry, and methodology development. She also has experience in the areas of food science, energy storage devices, and materials chemistry. Additionally, Johanna advises clients regarding licensing agreements, performs and analyzes trademark searches, and prepares and files trademark applications.

Johanna stays active in the Portland legal community by mentoring first-year law students and graduate students interested in pursuing a career in IP.  She is a member of the Portland Chapter of the International Network of Boutique and Independent Law Firms (INBLF). Johanna earned her Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Oregon State University in 2009 and her J.D. from the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College in 2012. She was admitted to the Oregon bar in 2012.

Johanna joined Klarquist as a summer associate and law clerk in 2010 before becoming an associate in 2012. She joined the partnership in 2020.
