Ryan is a partner at Klarquist, where he helps clients navigate complex intellectual property disputes. With a background in biochemistry and physics, Ryan brings a deep technical understanding to IP litigation, working across industries such as life sciences, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, semiconductors, and consumer electronics.
Sharp Legal Strategy Backed by Technical Expertise: Ryan represents clients in patent and copyright disputes before federal district courts, the Federal Circuit, and in post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. His strong analytical skills and strategic thinking have earned him recognition in Best Lawyers’ Ones to Watch for Intellectual Property Litigation from 2021 to 2025.
From the Lab to the Courtroom: Ryan earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Oregon’s Institute of Molecular Biology and his B.S. in Physics from Brigham Young University. This technical foundation allows him to break down complex scientific concepts and develop clear, compelling legal arguments to serve his clients’ business needs, whether defending against infringement claims or enforcing IP rights.
Invested in Clients and the Community: Beyond his practice, Ryan is committed to mentoring young attorneys and staying engaged with the evolving landscape of IP law through his leadership in local and national IP organizations. He is a regular speaker on issues at the intersection of IP and administrative law. He also dedicates time to pro bono work, providing legal assistance to domestic violence survivors through community legal aid organizations.
When he’s not tackling legal challenges, Ryan enjoys cycling the backroads and exploring the trails of the Pacific Northwest with his wife and children.
Ryan joined Klarquist as a lateral associate in 2018 and became partner in 2024.
