Fred’s practice focuses primarily on drafting utility patent applications, domestic and foreign patent prosecution, and patent validity and infringement opinions. His technical knowledge spans multiple industries, with specific expertise in the electrical, mechanical, and medical device and diagnostics fields.
Fred has valuable experience on both sides of the patent prosecution field: In addition to his time as a practicing patent attorney, he spent three years as an examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, reviewing the minute details of patent applications in the field of invisible radiation detection. Fred’s practice is also informed by his direct work experience as a mechanical engineer and as a research scientist in a biotechnology startup. His prior mechanical work experience encompassed microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), semiconductor fabrication, fiber optic sensor systems, automotive exhaust systems, and hydraulic rescue tools. During his time as a research scientist in the biotechnology field, Fred developed microfluidic devices and automated systems for proteomic and genomic analyses.
Fred’s ability to understand his clients’ technologies and his deep knowledge of patent law have been key to the trust they put in him to handle their most complex intellectual property law matters.
Fred joined Klarquist as an associate attorney in 2019.
