Darrell is an associate whose practice covers various aspects of intellectual property law, with a focus on preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
Darrell represents clients and industries within the technical fields of physics and optics, mechanical and electromechanical devices, medical devices, laboratory and diagnostic equipment, renewable energy, software and internet technology, and consumer goods. Additionally, Darrell has experience with inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, preparing and prosecuting design patents, and advising clients on trademark matters.
Prior to law school, Darrell worked as a laboratory technician in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Utah, where he assisted with studies on vaccine efficacy, analyzed gene expressions to determine possible RNA predictors for patients, and conducted research on immunologic markers associated with therapy responses. In addition to his experience in the secure networked communication and molecular diagnostic industries, Darrell also has a background in the brewing industry, having spent time performing quality control and assurance for a brewery in Salt Lake City.
Darrell joined Klarquist as a summer associate in 2017, before becoming a full-time associate in 2019.
