Klarquist Sparkman Scores Two Victories For Microsoft

Portland, OR –Intellectual property law firm Klarquist Sparkman, LLP announced that it has recently helped its client Microsoft Corporation win two patent infringement lawsuits brought against it.

In one case, United States District Judge Ann Aiken of the District of Oregon granted summary judgment on May 6, 2005, that Microsoft’s Sidewinder joysticks and game controllers did not infringe two patents owned by Motionless Keyboard Company (“MKC”).  The district court further ordered that that the two MKC patents were invalid.  Klarquist Sparkman attorneys Chris Carraway and Jared Goff represented Microsoft. 

In another case, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit issued a favorable decision on April 22, 2005 affirming Microsoft’s November 2003 victory in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.  The Federal Circuit agreed with the district court that Microsoft’s UDDI business services directory does not infringe a patent owned by Steven Hoffer entitled “Interactive Electronic Trade Network and User Interface.”  The appeal was argued last year to the Federal Circuit in Washington, DC.  Klarquist Sparkman attorneys Joe Jakubek, Jared Goff, and Chris Carraway represented Microsoft, along with co-counsel Neel Chatterjee of Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe.
